The sophmore effort from Ms. Gibson is so very beautiful. We've hand screened the covers and the inserts for the first 500 of these with some amazing art from Mr. Evan B. Harris. We've also gone with our usual 180 audiophile quality vinyl and as a bonus to you all this LP comes with a code to download Laura's home recorded solo versions of every song on the record (along with the studio versions of course)!
The collection of folks that came together to make this record is amazing, drawing from M. Ward's band, Loch Lomond, The Decemberists, Carcrashlander, Laura Viers, Norfolk & Western, Musee Mechanique, Talk Demonic and featuring the production work of Tucker Martine, these songs have been given the most amazing backdrops in which to present their cases. You will not be disappointed.
Beast of Seasons opens with a hum and drone, a veil of fog conjuring a sense of atmosphere not unlike the Pacific Northwest coastal timber town where Laura Gibson was raised. A plaintive strum emerges with a voice in tow; a candle, a tender and flickering wisp of a voice suffusing the space with a warm glow. This voice, registering as little more than a whisper, rises above the subtle and evocative instrumentation with uncommon intimacy. Coos and cracks, chirps and slurs, clucks and purrs all come into focus with perceptive musicality.
