3/8/13 - 1939 Ensemble
The debut album by Portland's 1939 Ensemble, Howl & Bite, will be out April 16th. We are very excited to be working with Jose & David on this record. It's a wonderful mix of Tortoise influenced post-rock and jazz exploration - drums, vibes and noise generators - such a great listen all the way through. This one is vinyl & digital only and is available for preorder on the site now. They are throwing an awesome release show on March 29th at Mississippi Studios if you happen to be here in Portland, it'll be a doozy for sure.

On another note - we have completely redesigned the way our shopping cart buttons work! There is now one button per format and ALL SHIPPING CHARGES are taken care of on the PayPal end of things. This will hopefully make things less confusing to our friends overseas...however...friends overseas be warned, postage rates have risen considerably in the last month, it's around $18 to get a single LP to the UK, yikes! We totally sympathize with how much this stinks, however, please understand it is totally out of our control. If you have any questions about any of these changes please drop us a line and we'll do our best to answer them in a timely and thorough fashion.

2/3/13 - Happy New Year!
Welcome to JBR's 21st year of operation. We're starting off with a repress of M. Ward's Transfiguration of Vincent LP. We've got a limited quantity on a lovely green vinyl, and if you'd like to add it to your collection please give a click here and place your order! We've got a lot more in the works including the debut LP by Portland's 1939 Ensemble and the sophmore effort by Decemberists drummer John Moen's Perhapst. Look for vinyl from Fruit Bats and Califone later this year as well. Last year was aces, and we're going to keep things moving along for 2013. Thanks for everything and we'll be in touch soon.

9/14/12 - JB100
We are so very pleased to announce our 100th release. Califone's Sometime Good Weather Follows Bad People on double gatefold vinyl with 4 exclusive bonus tracks. Califone is one of our very favorite bands and we have put a little extra in this package for you all, including having the first 300 copies pressed on a lovely light blue vinyl. The record comes out on Nov. 6th, but you can preorder your copy here now.

Next on deck, is, well... our 99th release! Our good friends in Weinland have their 3rd record, Los Processaur ready to go. It's a bit of a barn burner if we do say so ourselves. Weinland has put out 2 stellar records thus far, but we've always loved the energy they bring to their live shows so much, and this time around they've brought that energy into the studio as well. Without loosing any of the delicate beauty that makes them so amazing, they've managed to unhinge things a little bit, which makes things all the more compelling. Release date for this jam is also Nov 6th, and you can preorder your copy here as well.

The Builder and The Butchers. Such a storied history, playing shows in alleys, handing out instruments to the crowd to make it so the line between audience and band is so blurred you're not sure who is who. We heard about these folks before we ever heard them, to the point that they were a bit of a legend in our ears, before they were an actual music experience. And with that we'll jump ahead a bit and announce our 105th release, which is actually a reissue of the first Builders record that came out on Bladen County Records in 2007. This record, over all of their records, is the most direct, it was recorded in a living room, with a group of friends on hand to help bring to mind the alleys they came from, all the instruments were acoustic, as Ryan says "Powered by a human, no amps to be heard". Chipboard sleeves, and the first 200 copies on a lovely golden vinyl. Release date is October 30th and you can preorder your copy here!

Each of these folks are playing special release shows in intimate locations to help celebrate the release of these records!

Oct 26th & 27th - Weinland w/ guests @ Mississippi Studios in Portland, OR
Nov 2nd - The Builders and The Butchers @ Laurelthirst Public House in Portland, OR
Nov 3rd - The Builders and The Butchers @ Barboza in Seattle, WA
Nov 30th- Califone w/ Rebecca Gates @ Mississippi Studios in Portland, OR
Dec 1st - Califone w/ Rebecca Gates @ The Crocodile in Seattle, WA

The future. Well, we're at (and past, actually) our 100th release. We're going to be doing some special things here this fall. Reissuing the first Kind of Like Spitting cassette in digital form, documenting each of our 100 releases in picture, and hopefully putting together a little zip file 100 songs, one from each release thus far. We're also looking to the future, so keep your eyes and ears open for some more amazing records next year.
Thanks for everything and we'll be in touch! xoJBR

5/14/12 - OLD & NEW
First for the OLD - We've repressed M. Ward's first album Duet For Guitars #2. 200 copies of it can be found on lovely clear vinyl, 100 of those copies from our site, the other 100 copies at fine indie retailers around the country! You can preorder your copy here and we'll be sure and ship it out around the May 22nd release date.
Now for the NEW - Kaia's amazingly awesome new album Two Adult Women In Love is available for preorder, and we have 50 copies of the super limited lavender colored vinyl ready and waiting here!

4/2/12 - THE HORIZON
We have news folks! Laura Gibson is out on the road supporting her new album La Grande and it is going exceptionally well for her and her band. Here at JBR, we're gearing up for a slew of spring releases. To start things off, we've been working with our friends at WoodPhone Records on the Alialujah Choir album - it's a stunner! Adam Shearer from Weinland and Adam Selzer from Norfolk & Western have teamed up with Alia Farah to form this lovely little super group of amazing vocalists. You can get the CD from us, or head to your favorite digital retailer for a virtual version. We'll also be working with WoodPhone on the release of the new Weinland record Los Processaur. Look for it later this spring, details to follow as soon as they are confirmed.

Next we are pleased to announce that we're working on a special Record Store Day (4/21/12) release of the vinyl for the new Portland Cello Project album Homage. This will be a limited version of the record, around 1000 hand numbered copies, 200 of which will come on a delicious "root beer" colored vinyl. Not to be outdone the band will have non-numbered versions on hand at shows, 200 of which are going to be on a n elegant "jade" colored vinyl! Wheew! Other points of interest are that the vinyl comes with a bonus track of the tune All Of The Lights originally by Kanye West, as well as a super secret download bonus of a brand new cut not to be announced until the release date. Oh, and did we mention these are all hip-hop songs? Yep!

Following that is the newest record by our friends in Pellet Gun - Great Divide. This is the newest endeavor by Eric Jensen of Tractor Operator, Dave Snider from Testface and Brian Gardiner from Federale. Pellet Gun actually predates all of those bands, with their first album, Every Time I Yawn I Cry A Little coming out originally in 2002. The time off was totally worth this follow up; nice tight angular rock with just enough pop to bring you back over and over and over... and speaking of ETIYICAL, we're making a digital version of that record available as well here shortly, remastered and everything. Both records will hit the airwaves on 5/1/12, with a release show on 5/5/12 at The Know here in Portland. Come on down!

We had a very successful Kickstarter campaign in February to help get Kaia's new record completed and, well, it's done! The record is called Two Adult Women In Love and it's a stunner! Recorded over the course of the last six years with a slew of guests, including her cohorts in Team Dresch, it will be out officially in May on CD & LP. Since she's on tour with Amy Ray right now we got some copies of the CD version ready really quick like, so if you make it out to one of those shows be sure to pick one up! We also have a little bonus for folks available over here, so check it out!

Finally, some news we've been camping on for a while now, we're working up a special reissue of Sometimes Good Weather Follows Bad People by our friends in Califone. This is one of our favorite bands of all time and we are beyond honored to be able to offer this up. It's going to be a double LP, with 4 exclusive tracks that have never seen the light of day. It is going to be amazing. As it's our 100th release we're pulling out a majority of the stops on this one, you will not be disappointed. Look for more Califone related releases coming as the year goes on. Radness.

And is you noted above, we've hit the 100 mark. We're working on getting something special put together to celebrate the occurence, more details on what exactly that is will follow, once we actually decide what we accomplish in a reasonable amount of time. Meanwhile, you can check out our Facebook page to see what we're coming across as we dig through the archives, it's a fun and funny thing, nostalgia!
