So Ben recorded some songs with me in the Summer of '95 for this compilation I was working on, he had just come out of this awesome indie rock band from Eugene called Slotcar, but they had broken up and he had started playing solo shows around town. The songs were great. We sat on them for a bit, and Ben moved to Portland. In the winter of '96 (or is that '95? I never really know how that works) he came back to Eugene for a visit and we recorded some more songs. One from the first session and one from this one eventually ended up on Nailed to the Stars, the first "real" Jealous Butcher release. I was sitting in Kinko's working on the layout for the comp and Ben and some friends came in. I asked him what he wanted to be called and he said "kind of like spitting", I was like "what the hell does that mean?", he was like "I don't know, but that's what it's going to be"...
Kind of Like Spitting writes beautifully crafted songs with a pention for sadness. They have been around for several years, threatening to call it quites at any moment but always managing to hold it together. The band has gone through more than a few incarnations, released 3 singles and 2 full length albums, inluding last years "Nothing Makes Sense Without It" on New American Dream. They are about to release two new records (almost) simultaniously, "Old Moon in the Arms of the New" on HUSH/Jealous Butcher and "$100 Room" on Florida's OHEV/Ganaarecordings. Both will be mastered by Tony Lash (Elliott Smith, Ida). There are tours in the works, compilations to put tracks on, and split 7"'s to come out. Kind of Like Spitting is a band and they will see you very soon.
