Don't let the title throw you off. It's not meant to be funny, or even ironic, it is meant "as is", a frank statement of fact, though you can interpret it however you'd like of course. This is Kaia Wilson's 5th solo album, and it contains her most mature (adult) songwriting to date, along with some incredibly thoughtful production by Seth Lorinczi (The Corin Tucker Band/Golden Bears) and Rob Jones (Jealous Butcher Records). There is nothing slick (and by slick read sterile/perfected) in these recordings; they were done very much one at a time, over a very long period of time, and in different settings (kitchens, basements, bedrooms, studios). Each song was delicately handled as it's own unique creature, never straying from what the composition itself wants. On this album you will find that the songs sound very unique from one to the next, and yet there is still an intrinsic cohesion to them - the heart of the song being fed by the arteries of the engineering/production. TAWIL features guest musicians Jody Bleyle & Marci Martinez (Team Dresch) on bass/drums, Amanda Lawrence (Norfolk and Western) on viola/cello, and Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears/The Corin Tucker Band) on organ and castanets (!).
