Annalisa Tornfelt, the Portland musician best known as the singer and fiddle player for Black Prairie, offered “A Cover Song of Your Choice” as an incentive to be a part of her fundraising campaign for the release of her solo album The Number 8 in March of 2015. Eleven songs were requested by family, friends and fans to make her second release a covers album SEARCH ZERO.

“Mike played the drums downstairs while I tracked my vocals & guitar in the attic. I ran the tape machine so he could stay at the drums. You push the “SEARCH ZERO” button to rewind back to the beginning and when you’re listening to the tape rewind, there is this long moment to decide if you’re going to record over what you did - or give it a listen.”

Requests include covers by Hall & Oates, Velvet Underground, Johnny Cash & June Carter, Ian & Sylvia, as well as Annalisa’s childhood friend from Alaska, Matt Hopper.

In line with Annalisa’s initial idea to release The Number 8 via her P.O. Box, she will be releasing Search Zero as digital download codes stickered on the back of polaroid pictures she has taken. “Each picture is different, and there isn’t another one in the world like yours. I think that’s really special.”
