No. 2, a Portland, OR rock band, released their first record “No Memory” on Chainsaw Records in 1999. Formed by Neil Gust (Heatmiser), Gilly Ann Hanner (Calamity Jane, Braille Stars) and Paul Pulvirenti (Eyelids), No. 2 went on to release their second record “What Does Good Luck Bring?” in 2002. The band ended in 2003. Both albums were recently reissued on vinyl by Jackpot Records and Jealous Butcher Records, respectively.
At Neil’s surprise birthday party in 2018, the band reformed. After nearly a year and a half of bicoastal work (Gilly and Paul live in Portland, OR and Neil lives in Brooklyn, NY), the band is releasing their first new music in 18 years. The single, “You Might Be Right b/w French Exit,” was produced by Joanna Bolme (bass player for Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks) and was recorded by Gary Jarman of The Cribs.
“You Might Be Right,” a flat out ripping rock song, is about a longterm gay relationship destabilized by a new presence. The video for the song, directed by Sam Higginson, was filmed in Paul’s basement, and features colors (and emotions) so saturated the picture literally falls apart.
“French Exit,” a slow burner, is about a beloved and troubled friend who leaves the party without saying goodbye.
The band is hard at work on their third LP with Producer Joanna Bolme and Engineer Gary Jarman. Expect a new full length record on Jealous Butcher in Spring 2021.
